Hello ,

Do I need the RendermanProServer 13.5 to run RenderMan Studio (RenderMan For Maya Pro)?

The plugin for RenderMan Studio, RenderMan for Maya Pro, has its own internal version of prman. However, the value of having an external version of prman ie. RenderMan Pro-Server, is that you will be able to render rib files that you generate from Maya. Not rendering internally with the plugin (ie. immediate mode) but using deferred rendering with rib files is very advantageous. But of course there is the extra expense of purchasing RenderMan Pro-Server. Either way, you have access to the renderer-of-choice of the feature film industry.

but how do I create rib files from Maya? Is it via export function or is there a parameter in the RfM plugin...

However, RFMPro ships with 13.0.2 version of rendreman, And the 13.5 version is potentially MUCH faster in ray tracing. (it takes a bit to configure everything in rfmPro to do ebverything 100% ok)

To this end its possible to buy RFMPro without the internal renderer in wich case you will save 1500$ of its cost but of course you need the prman license separately. Altough you dont need that you can just use some external renderman implementation if you wish.
