Hmm actualy id say its a bit other way around, certain thigns are just so much easier in maya. I mean theres a LOT more to rigging that painting skinweights, wich is usualy teh simplest possible thing.
The main problem in maya wich people mostly complain about, wich is actualy its best benefit is that theres avbsolutely no attempt in hiding problems. While many se this as a fault ist actualy not, it seesms to be a design imprerative and a part of the no nonsense maya approach. The benefits are as follows: You become aware of what your actualy doing and what its limitations are (this allows you to consider a better startegy BEFORE your in a real trouble). You get realy quickly indoctrinated in undesranting that inorder for things to work your way you need to know how they work (its just so much harder to use the escalator and suddenly realize that theres a barrier and that you need to take the stairs form the bottom up becuse you just hit that barrier, in maya youd allready stood on that level).
May people conset the fact that they need to know what they need to know go figure.
Usualy though theres no problems in maya rigging whatsoever just as long as you get with the program. Maya is just a bit more tech fiendly in my oppinion, altough techvise the scripting eingene of xsi si a bit superior, but less portable.
Besides why would you think alias develops best possible rigs? And who cares if the stuff ships with the prog or not?

Note that anything thats simpler than final rig sint realy worth rigging or callend a rig, i mena even the ui improvemants and selectors and such are part of the rigging process. ANd i menqa final rig is still relay simplistic as theres no blendshapes no deformations for the surface etc etc. So even final rig isnt a afull rig still.
Ps personaly final rig sint a rig that id use but i does dserve as demonstration, there are fmany lacks in ist use tough like not binding controll shapes under the equalient bones and such but it does serve the purpose of demnstrating what a areal RIG should look like, it needs to have a generator and tools worked out for it like the panel and so but still..
