im sounding like a broken record but... the new site has:
- each file has a ranking
- each file has comment system
- we have a review section -- i havent planned anything for this aside from having users who can really use products in a production sense review something in a real production area.
the review system is built of a new content system which includes:
- reviews
- interviews
- featured stories
- anything that is "article" style.
I have a few things lined up that we can get, like dvds for sure. I can get you guys that stuff easily because they are already advertisers. I plan on starting with our advertisers of course because non advertisers want reviews for free but we cant do that obviously.
I am going to create admin forums for each area and get a group of people in each. So I can post something like "takers for new Maya DVD review - deadline oct 10th" then we can get responses from you guys and someone can take it.
oh we also have "editor's picks" per section.
I basically took every feature from download.com, cnet.com, sourceforge.com,a nd what we currently have.
the owner's of each file have the option to "create support forum" as well. So under their file they get a complete forum where they are automatically assigned as supermoderator. they can create announcements, polls, and respond to user's posts.
the integration into the forums has taken about 2 months of development. We are using invision power boards with a few modifications. It's been a real bitch but I garauntee no other site has this level of control for file owners. Their files are also linked from www.highend3d.com/$filename which displays an entire profile page for that file. So they basically have a psuedo website on highend3d.com.
I've had 2 developers quit on me so far because the depth of each area and the time it has taken to develop them. As of Monday we have 17,000 lines of code written from scratch. Right now I've got 2 full time developers working this entire month to make the nov 1st deadline.
