Rivatuner vs. standalone Softquadro patch

Is there a difference between the Softquadro application that comes with Rivatuner and the standalone Softquadro patch? Some of the posts here seem to imply this, but I can't find any mention of this in any of the documentation, which seems to imply that both "versions" are the same.

I've read that the RivaTuner's version got a patch to unlock the Nvidia's protection for drivers over the 12.90's.

I've read this sort of thing as well, but only on public forums. I've yet to see any info on this issue in any of the "official" channels -- i.e. anywhere on the actual download sites. This strikes me as a bit odd since you'd "think" that the standalone patch would be kept current.

That said, is there any way of using the Rivatuner for the Softquadro patch only? I don't really need or desire to run Rivatuner, so is there a way of using Rivatuner to apply the Softquadro patch without having to have Rivatuner actually run? If I install Rivatuner and apply Softquadro, can I uninstall Rivatuner and still keep the Softquadro drivers?

Also, does Rivatuner have the GF3 -> DCC Softquadro capability? The standalone Softquadro patch still does not have this -- it tops out at GF2Pro/Ultra -> Quadro2Pro.

yes the new version of rivaturner supports geforce 3 - quadro dcc

yes the anti protection thing works as i used it on the detonator drives and it stopped the open gl loop caused from it

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the answers to any of the questions I asked above on guru3d.com. I did go to guru3d.com, but I didn't see any info on the "differences" between the rivatuner "version" of Softquadro and the standalone patch. I looked at the both the Rivatuner and Softquadro documentation pages. I also found no information on my other questions regarding whether it's possible to apply the softquadro patch from Rivaturner and then remove or disable Rivatuner -- i.e. whether it's possible to essentially utilize Rivatuner as a Softquadro patch without having to actually use Rivatuner.

Am I simply looking in the wrong area's of guru3d.com? As I said, I've found information sections for both Rivatuner and Softquadro, but my questions aren't addressed in these sections. If you know of areas on the site that address these questions, could you point me to the correct links?

well since their site runs in frames i cant copy and paste all the urls to here
but basically i went to their site and i found out

that the difference is that the latest version of rivatuner contains the latest softquadro patches
the stand alone softquadro stoped at version 1.0 of softquadro which did not support quadro dcc and did not have the anti-protection scripts the new version of Softquadro has
so basically stand alone softquadro stopped at the release of V 1.0
Rivatuner with Softquadro has the newest softquadro patches

rivatuner just creates registry edits meaning once you set the options you want you can delete rivatuner and go on your way especially since its not something you actually instal you just unpack it run it and pick the options you want

so yes you can utilize rivatuner to enable the softquadro patch on the drivers and then never use rivatuner again

Thanks for the information, although I don't think the "30 seconds" comment was necessary -- it's not like I didn't try to find this info myself before posting. In fact, I just went to the site and looked around again, and for whatever reason I still cannot find the information you're referring to. I'm looking at the documentation pages for both "Rivatuner" and "Softquadro" as well as the "guides" section for "quadro" references, but found no references to these questions. I realize I must be looking in the wrong place, but I'm at a loss as to where else to look. I believe you that it's there, but where?

I did find info on Rivatuner having the latest version of the patch, but I couldn't find any statement that this "version" is any different from the standalone version -- i.e. I couldn't find a statement implying that the standalone wasn't the latest version, or that the Rivatuner had version "1.1" or that it offers more capabilities

You did answer my questions, but for future reference I'm still interested in knowing where I can access this information directly. What was the section you were looking in (i.e. "downloads," "articles," etc.)? Do you remember any details about the subsection that contained this info?

hmmm som eo fit was in the rivatuner history section some of it in the FAQ and about rivatuner having the latest version i knwo i saw it on there but i saw it somewhere else to cant rmemeber off hand i think it was even posted here in another thread from some who emailed the guy who wrote it

but check out the riva history section and the discussion forum there theres alot of info there too on everything
it might have been in there i saw the info about the softquadro standalone not haveing the latest stuff

No problem -- I appreciate your response.

I am surprised that the standalone isn't as up to date as the "integrated" version of Softquadro in Rivatuner -- you'd think the Rivatuner version would be based on the standalone patch, but I guess not.

This aside, do you know of a test that I could run so that I could confirm that the patch is working properly? So far, I don't notice any obvious differences. What's something I could try in Maya 4 that would simply have horrible framerates without the Softquadro patch, but will run smooth with the patch? I'm using a dual P3 850 with 1GB of RAM and the GF2Ultra with patched 12.90's. I have verified that "unified back/depth buffer" and "hardware overlays" are both enabled in the GF2Ultra advanced property panel.

i t hink rivatuner in the past was always something that just brought all the reg edits and other tweaks together i guess softquadro was just another tweak brought into it

hmm id try paint effects or artisan work they seem to make a difference

on my end i noticed a difference in overall speed for some reason it was able to hand more geometry with the patched drivers over the non patched ones

you can try the scene here to see if you ge any framrate difference

ohhh 1 difference i did note for sure
was i pathced the detonator xp dirvers (21.80s) (also not on xp on 2k but they just call the m the xp drivers dont know why) and ran the anti-protection thing on them and with past drivers and with them unpatched it used to take 3 - 4 seconds for the color picker and some other things to pop up now they all pop up instantly
