Rockgen Not Working

Hi , first of all ,quite New in Maya .

I am loading rockGen to the script window , select all and "middle-mouse-button-drag" to the shelf . The icon appears with rockGen text next to it.
When clicking on it , nothing happens.

Nothing happens either when I ctrl+Enter it to evaluate .
No warning message either for that matter.
What am I doing wrong or just not doing ?

FAO all mel users:

NEVER load any scripts into the script editor and certainly NEVER load a script into the script editor and MMB-drag it on to the shelf!

all you need to do to make a shelf button for a script is put the script itself somewhere in your script path (e.g. myDocs\maya\scripts) then put the SCRIPT NAME on a shelf button. you shouldn't ever have to load or open any scripts into maya.

so in your case Hilari you should just have a shelf button with the command:

rockGen;

on it and nothing else.

This approach is not guarenteed to work on every script, but if it DOESN'T, the script is a piece of garbage and should probably be avoided anyway.

Hi Naughty Nathan .

And thank you for taking your time to reply at my s.o.s.

My rockGen is placed in my C:\programfiles\Autodesk\maya2008\scripts .

In order to make it work, and following the example from the Maya tutorial on how to load and change a script , I "command >> new tab" ( I press the Mel button ) and then "File >> open script " in order to "save to shelf" .
Should it not be the procedure ?

I downloaded the Bonus Tools from Autodesk and they lie on the same path as rockGen ( and awire, for that matter: another script playing dead too,so far).

I downloaded the x-ray and this script does work .
Some of my guessings is that it has to do with scripts with windows, as x-ray is just a toggling script.

The script from the Maya tutorial loads and works fine following the instructions from the tutorial but not rockGen and Awire.

Can you see what I am doing wrong ?

I'd really appreciate any lighshedding on this matter

I'm not running Maya 2008 right now so I can't be 100% but I'm fairly sure:

C:\programfiles\Autodesk\maya2008\scripts

is NOT in your scripts path. Besides, (and this is generally good advice for any software) you really shouldn't modify the contents of a programs installed location, including adding files to it. You are given a maya folder in your "My Documents" where you can put all your own custom stuff and it's here you should really be putting anything you create or download. (this is all Windows based btw, I have no idea how other OS's handle this but I imagine it's similar)
