could somebody please enlighten me on the differences and proper uses of these two? The docs are singularly unhelpful as to why you'd use one or the other. Is it merely hotkey-ability?
name command is used by hotkey , like
//// Center Pivot
string $hotKey = nameCommand;
-annotation "Center Pivot"
-command "CenterPivot"
hotkey -alt -k "1" -name $hotKey;
this code is enough to make hotkey work,
runtime command is used for hokey editor registration,
like:
runTimeCommand
-annotation ""
-category "User"
-commandLanguage "mel"
-command ("HypershadeWindow;")
winHyperShade;
nameCommand
-annotation "winHyperShadeNameCommand"
-sourceType "mel"
-command ("winHyperShade")
winHyperShadeNameCommand;
hotkey -keyShortcut "s" -ctl -alt -name ("winHyperShadeNameCommand");
so either you create a hotkey from mel, or use mel to store it in hotkey editor then use later
