Allright folks. I've read the School's posting and no one has mentioned Savannah College of Art & Design. I've checked their website and they seem to have a really solid program. Their student work is a lot better than a lot of schools I've checked out.

If anyone has any comments or suggestions about SCAD, let's post it. Having reconsidered my choice on Full Sail, I've been heavily researching schools. SCAD is just one of many. Post away

I'll stick my head out here with this but anyhow...

In my experience SCAD has had a lot of funny workings. For one it isn't accredited through the National Colleges of Arts and Design like all the other schools you probably saw that offer a BFA in something Computer Animation related. I was told by their admissions people that this is due to the school being family run and a family run school can't be accredited through the NSAD. At my undergrad we used their Senior Thesis projects as examples of what our Juniors should be doing their first semester. This year was the first year I can recall (of the past 4) that they got a piece into Siggraph and it was just in the Screening Room. I always recommend for people interested in all these different schools to check out the festivals and see how they do because the best schools always have their work in festivals. I work with a person who graduated from SCAD and she has indicated that she wished she went to an other school and has been never too enthusastic about her education.

If you are sticking to the South East the school to check out is Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. I'm sure you've seen the other posts about this school and have probably seen their work in Siggraph and other festivals.

Again these are just opinions and it is important for you to check out the schools yourself. For me personally SCAD just threw money at me but when I looked at the long term costs it ended up being around the same price range as Ringling so the choice became obvious to me.

Alright, from a current student:

The emphasis of SCAD's Computer Art program right now seems to be the growth of facilities - A new building has enough hardware to blow away any other school I've seen, although the architectural layout and location aren't quite as inspiring.

The biggest trouble spot is communication, particularly in this time where the department is undergoing changes in location and structure: There is some incredible student work done here that you won't see on SCAD's SIGGRAPH booth, and especially not on the webpage, which is really not an up-to-date or accurate representation of work being done.

Like it's home city, SCAD is full of mysteries... If you really want to understand the place, visit and get yourself in contact with some of the more serious students.
