Schematic View

ok, before yelling against max developpers, I would like to know if you can Freeze or Lock a Schematic View in max 4...
'cause i searched and searched again, and i couldn't found it

I dont think so..but you can activate auto arange options so your schematic view nodes stays tidy.

well, then, why have they made a schematique view for ?
i mean, if its impossible to use it, why making one, just to say, "LOOK" we have one, ha ha ha, like Maya or Xsi.'

but can't they see that we are using not only max, and that we can see that they're add ons are juste illusions and not workflow ?...

i want a S.V. like in Maya or Xsi,
to re-arrange my schematic view like i want, to find more easly my futur selection...

i'm workings on scene that will be used not by only me, but others animators, and for a charactere, i want them the schematic view to be like a charactere, so they just can select what they want very easly...

but it's impossible, because if i'm just hiding one object, it doesn't re-apear at the same place it was (((((

one more time, discreet developers has just copy an option but has not try to know why they implemant it, or how and when and why we can use it !!!!

At this point, discreet is now well aware that their schematic view is basically useless. And I agree, I hope they put some ressources into make one that's far more useful, for example, I'd like to make all my materials in a schematic view interface.

I like to be able to instance/copy controller, assign controller, wire parameters, setup maps & material via the SV aswell.

Oh, there's PLENTY they need to do to schematic view, down to really really simple things. But I'll stay clear of that for now, and just add this instead to the thred:

I find that selecting in the viewport is best for the way I work,
and with a little simple scripting, you can make a click on one object, select another. Not obvious at first, but think of it this way, you can have an offset dummy following your character around, with very easy to select bits, that when selected automatically select the correct bone/object instead. This methodology has been refined further by Bobo in his spookyHide script, where selecting certain objects causes others to be hidden from view. Useful to simplify views for certain operations automatically.

But if you really want to streamline for artists who like selecting, the best thing you can do is built a floater. When you're done with everything else, use the new visual maxscript to quickly design a custom floater for a character, with nice labels, or even image buttons, and write in the simple code to select objects with it. You can build all sortsa other tools into the same floater too, saving space.
