Script Colorization Editors

Hello,

I am new to scripting and would like to use an editor that will organize my mel text into colors relating to commands. I've seen a few in the files area but from looking at the dates edited they all seem to be old. Does anyone have any suggestions of which is the best or most user friendly text editor to use?

Also, for launching the editor from inside Maya, would I be able to just create a shelf icon with the highlight and "Save to shelf" option in the default Maya Script Editor?

Edit

OK, I decided to go with EditPlus 2. I got the colors working, now I was wondering how to create a button for the shelf inside Maya to launch the application from within Maya.

If it matters: I'm running Maya Unlimited 5 on XP.

Have you looked at the 'system' mel command? The docs show you how to launch a process in the background...

Edit:
To make a button just select your text in the Script Editor and drag it to your shelf (I think; been awhile...).

SWEET!!! Thanks a lot. The "system" command is what I was needing. Cool beans.

Hi DigitalDez,

eh... if you want an Mel editor from within Maya, with highlighting i will suggest you "Blue Mel"... -->

it's a plugin for Maya, but you can read more about it on the page...

Good deal, thanks a lot. I loaded that one and it works perfectly. I've also configured the Crimson Editor to work from the shelf, too. The better thing about the BlueMEL one is it executes the scripts directly from within Maya. But, the interface of Crimson is more user friendly. LoL Oh well, can't have everything.
