Script to go from object/component mode on the fly

a while ago i checked command in maya to see what it was doing when i pressed F8 i copied that and added to my shelf. the problem was it didnt work all the time. does anyone know how i can have it so if im in component mode i can switch to object mode, and its absolute? i just ask cause i have every tool i use set as marking menus, i slow down having to get my hand off the mouse press f8 and start up again. it sounds like im just being lazy, but it really would save me alot of time.

should do the trick.

i use:
toggleSelMode;
toggleSelMode;
changeSelectMode -object;
(my first ever script),
takes you back to object whether your in component mode, or object-ctx-component mode (RMB component selecting).

so far that does exactly waht i was looking for. i had a few scripts i did also, but sometimes they wouldnt switch back modes. i dont nkow why

can you explain how that script works?i get the toggles, but the changeselection mode -object, i dont get what that is doing.

it just sets selectn mode to object, explicitly, rather than using the toggle to go between them ....its just there to exit from component mode ('cause two toggles takes you back to component, if thats where you start) ....its lazy really, could detect the mode your in, and do the appropriate single/dble toggle instead.

i get it, so nomatter what mode your in it will take you to object?

Here is a few lines that will switch you to object mode if you are in component mode...

if(selectMode -q -co)
{
selectMode -object;
}

Note, this doesn't work if you used the RMB to change to component mode.
