How do I automatically redirect the echo found in the scriptEditor to a file?

did you take a look at the fprint mel commnd?
No I have not looked at the fprint command ....but I will now.

It's maybee a bit late for a reaction to this post but here's a quick solution:
scriptEditorInfo -historyFilename "tempHistoryLog.txt" -writeHistory true;
'writes the ScriptEditors history to a .txt file in your Maya directory'
and
scriptEditorInfo -writeHistory false;
stops writing
