Selecting animation curves in the Graph Editor

G'day all,
I'd like to be able to select an animation curve (or series of animation curves) in the Graph Editor through MEL, similar to the way which you would select one with the mouse (in the outliner part of the Graph Editor, ie, when the selected curve name goes grey).

However, I can't find out how to do it anywhere! "Echo All Commands" does nothing, and I've scoured through AW's scripts but to no avail.

If anyone knows how to do this (or has already written a script which allows you to select all translateX curves for example), I'd love to hear from you.

what you want to select is the animation-curve-node. you can see these nodes in the outliner if you turn off "show dag objects only" (right click in the outliner)
for an object named "pCube1" the translation-animation-nodes would have the name "pCube1_translateX" "pCube1_translateY" and "pCube1_translateZ"
you can use the following command to list animation curves:

ls -type "animCurveTL"; //for all translation curves
ls -type "animCurveTA"; //for all rotation curves
ls -type "animCurveTU"; //for all scale curves
