I'm looking for something that will select faces based off how much their normals deviate from a user defined direction in space, either one of the world axes, or a prior selected face.
I could basically select all faces that are within +/- 10 degrees of the X axis.

well one cloud be made. How big selections are we ltalking about and if so what normal do you want to use the face average the corer ones or what...
I mean it could be implemented in mel but that wouldnt do for vcery large selections.
What about using selection constraint?
