Selection Problems (3)

I'm running into a problem with Maya when I switch to vertex component mode after selecting an object. Maya will select vertices that belong to other objects that aren't selected.

This doesn't happen in Edge or Polygon mode, just in Vertex mode. When I'm in component mode set to edge or polygons, Maya will only select polygons and edges that belong to the selected object.

How can I tell Maya that I only want to select vertices that belong to the current object?

I'm switching to component mode by using the "Select by Component Type" button in the Status Line and turning off everything except the "Select by Component Type: Parm Points" button AFTER choosing an object while in "Select by object type" mode.

I'm using Maya 7.0.
Thanks.

Not sure if this is your problem, but take a look at the setting that controls Backface Culling

Display -> Custom Polygon Display [] -> Backface Culling dropdown option

Usually when I want to select "through" an object I turn backface culling Off. When I want to select only visible (in shaded view) verts I turn backface culling on.

I think this has no effect in wireframe... only smooth shaded or above.

I found the source of my problem.
If Vertices are set to be visible in the Custom Polygon Display Options, then Maya will select all the vertices in the selection marquee, whether they belong to the currently selected object or not.

Turning Vertex visibility to Off (so vertices can only be seen when in Vertex mode) solved my problem. Now Maya will only select vetices belonging to the currently selected object.
