Servers and Network

I'm doing a networking assignment and was wondering if anyone could help me. i couldn't find the information im looking for anywhere.

I really need to know if it's possible to run a Xserve G5 with 2 cluster nodes (for a render farm) connected to it, and the rest of the clients running redhat as workstations that can use qmaster to use the render farm.

if this sounds completely stupid like i dont know wat im talking about that's because i dont know anything about shake.

Any help is appreciated even point me in the right direction.
thanks

I think you need something like RUSH to intermix linux with osx rendernodes. Don't quote me on this but I don't think Qmaster can submit to linux nodes (I could be wrong though, check the qmaster pdf docs).

Also shake nongui licenses that you use for rendernodes on linux are around $2k each, where on osx they are all free.

One more thing I just thought of. Becarefull of mixing rendernodes from different processor types. You need to make sure that your rendering the same shot on only one processor type. Intermixing frames from two different processor types will introduce slightly different noises and patterns from stuff like filmgrain and any other randomly generated elements. You will instantly see this when you playback a sequence. This is true of all software renderers. Even mixes of similar architectures like P3 and P4 can cause issues like this.
