the preamble:
ok, this is a little odd, but I've been talking with a pal o' mine using strata and a linux-renderer. He uses several cheapo pc's on a LAN for rendering.
the question:
We've been noticing quad processor servers for dirt cheap on ebay and are pondering the use of them for renderers.
the qualifier:
I'm aware the video bandwidth on workstations is the primary issue, and on servers it's all I/O. Well with all those dang processors chuggin away, wouldn't a Netfinity or somesuch rip through our files?
Note:
this is a very 'garage' setup. Our major costs are soft, so we're trying to skimp on hard...
