Setting custom fps

Is there anyway to set the fps to 18?

well, what do you mean by : setting the fps to 18 ?
if you want to RENDER 18 fps x sec you should probably go to the Render Globals menu.
If you want to set the preview speed to 18 frames per second you sould go to the animation defaults
(or something similar) menu, wich is located on the right/down, near the timeline.

I found where you can set the preview to 18 frames per second, but I would like to render at 18 fps. I looked through the render globals menu and didn't see anywhere that you could actully set the fps there. I know you can set the fps for a project in the preferences menu under settings. The closest number I found was for gaming at 15 fps. Did I miss something under the render globals menu that will allow me to override the setting in the perferences? I know that this is not a standard setting and I could render at 24 fps and change it in a third party application, I just didn't want to have any dropped frames.

Maya renders just sequences of images it makes no asiption on how fast they should be played thets what you need your video editting app for (the avi is ntcs speed because mediaplayer asumes that f nothing is set).

Example whan using ae set the conform rate to 18 and it wont drop any frames it will take your say so that the footage is at 18 fps even if the format says whatever!

Also in general its much better (many reasons which have been discussed to the death, so search the forums if you are interesed) to actualy render still files and compile them later, qt pro is a good quick small app for this!

In additon to Quicktime Pro, Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere will take as input a siries of renders and alow you to set the output fps to a user defined frame rate.

Yes sure but if you use ae for a slower fps and have not conformed the input foootage (asuming avi), then it will drop frames and do conversion between theese in default mode so be carefull whan you play with this!
