Shake 4.1 Errors

Hello all,

I just bought Shake 4.1 about 3 weeks ago, along with a new Mac Mini. and it has been running great how ever last week it locked up and I had to reboot. Since then My copy of shake has been acting strange. The text entry fields are super italicized and the drop down menu's are impossible to read. I tried calling Apple how ever they tell me they are at a loss to provide an explanation, or a solution.

I tried reinstalling but during the install process it does not prompt me for the serial number, claiming I am just upgrading. and then it is back to the same problem. I would like to try and completely uninstall the program how ever I fear I don't know how.

Hi Harry,

I'm having the same problem on a 2.0G Macbook with Shake4.1
I think it must have something to do with a system font.
I managed to improve it slightly with a .h file which l found reference to
under Shake Help>Customizing Shake.
I added a .h file in my startup folder with the following

gui.menu.fontSize= "big";

It makes the text bigger and less italicized but doesn't totally solve the problem.

actually if it's the same problem on a macbook and with a macmini i couldd suspect a graphic card issue (as they use the same intgrated graphic chipset).

no idea why it worked in the beginning though.

Humm ok I'll give that a try. That makes since the computer was updating when it crached, and when it rebooted I forced an update which was when all the trouble began. but thanks for the info.

I think it is cause I had an older version ofthe graphics driver. not sure how to go back to the one that works, but at least I know the problem is not going to get worse.

well, maybe you can post your system info (machine model, os version) before and after it stopped working, so others can compare if they have a similair problem.

however, rereding your original post i see that the problem begann after a crash (due to shake or not?), so the normal things i'd try would be repair permissions, clear system caches etc (check onyx), and reapply the 10.4.8 (or 9) combo update.

I am using Shake 4.1 on a macbook with 2GB RAM from Samsung.
Mine did not have any such problem until I upgraded to OS 10.4.9
It could have also been an upgrade prior to it since I had not been using Shake on my macbook for a while.

I get strange super-italic font in text boxes with reddish, glitchy selection highlights and the system freezes (unable to force quit) at certain drag and drop attempts from Finder (this had never been a problem before).

I suspect it to have something to do with the new fixes to Finder's media file handling. It now works fine with Apple's current inhouse software like Aperture and iMovie but it gets cranky with Shake.

For your information, my macbook also have international keyboard layout for Japanese and Thai enabled . . . but that had never been a problem before though. The OS itself has conflict with certain localized font and the problem is simliar to what observed in Shake. But I am not using any such fonts in Shake.

I know my macbook is not the right platform for Shake nor any real compositing, I bought the copy mainly so I could continue script coding at home. It works mighty fine with an external monitor though.

I'm having the exact same problem, i don't know if it has any thing to do with the 10.4.9 update but it just happened a couple of weeks ago.
i'm on a 2Ghz Macbook with 2 GB of ram.

Actually i can live with it but the more annoying thing i ran in to was that scrolling in the parameter window is dead slow and choppy. only when i space bar into the window i can scroll and edit at full speed but then i can't see what i'm doing.

Anybody having the same problem?

Could this be a problem relating to our macbooks? As you know, macbooks are no graphic powerhouse and neither are they film worthy. (Limited screen resolution, color accuracy, etc.) This may have something to do with the non-existent videocard in our macbooks.

I have never encountered this problem on a G5 (wait, that's Shake 4.0) or a MacPro at all.

Perhaps it's time to upgrade to the new macbook Pro? (But again, color accuracy and limited resolution will still be our problem.)
Or perhaps Shake is strictly for workstations? I installed it on my macbook simply for the sake of casual touching-up and checking my comps (or more oftenly, script writing) while on the move and not for any serious all-nighter shots afterall.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my macbook. It's just not for serious compositing work, that's all.

Hi!... got Shake 4.1 and an iMAC with all the nesessary hardware to run it!...

When I take a clip from FCP 5.0 it does not appear... i've made all the right steps but it says Quicktime error (-43), the clip is in .mov so i think it isn't the problem and it highlights the file path directory... but the console always says Quicktime error (-43)

What can I do?... please help me...

I'VE SOLVED!...

I've found out that the Quicktime error -43 is a path location error!... so Shake sends this error when it doesn't find the clip file...

Now... there's no error... but still can't see the clip in viewer... it's black...

anyone?...
