Shake And Leopard

So I find shake takes a LONG time to load in Leopard -- seems to be a problem Final Cut is also experiencing. Anyone else seeing the same behavior?

Shake and Leopard work great here on my laptop. FCP works fine too.

did you do an upgrade or clean install beaker/jimmyt?

Never ever ever ever upgrade. Archive and install or Clean install only. I did both of these on different machines and it worked fine.

actually i did an upgrade here on my machine (too lazy to dig out all those installer disks and reconfigure all apps) and shake works perfect as does final cut.
however, i always do a clone of the old system as a backup before upgrading software, so in case anything goes wrong i can boot up from my old system.

There are always weird slowdowns whenever I upgraded in the past along with a variety of other issues that pop up.

As for backing up, I have seen a few people on the Aperture list that upgraded and Leopard hosed their system. The tard's never backed up their Aperture library. I can't believe people don't atleast backup their home directory with precious files like pictures which can't be replaced.

Oh yea, speaking of Aperture, if you do use it, turn off Time Machine. There are issues between the two which can cause your Aperture Library to become corrupt.

yeah, got to wonder about some peoples backup procedures - and not just mom and dad (those would at least not try to hack timemachine to backup to an unsupported linux server!)

but you're right, i would not recommend a lazy upgrade procedure on a mission critical machine either, definitely a clean install for that!

however, everybody who upgrades a mission critical machine to a brand new operating system during the first weeks surely has bigger problems then "upgrade or clean install"

well its not leopard in general...its the type of machine you run leopard on. i have a dual 2.7 G5 and that is supposed to work fast with everything lol, but i installed leopard and i had nothing but problems. so i went back to tiger and it works fine.

i installed leopard on my Macbook Pro (intel based) and everything runs smooth. the problem doesnt lie in the software, apple was just too lazy to try and correct the problems with leopard and machines that came out before 2006. so if you are using G5 powerpc systems or earier, you will have many problems when it comes to video and film.

on another note, if you plan on using leopard and maya...that just doesnt work at all lol
