I've spent most of my career in comp in television and commercials so I don't have much film experience. I understand there are nodes you should never use when comping film. Is there a list of these nodes? With explanations would be cool too...
For example a co-worker told me I should never use Screen to layer but he couldn't explain why. Is this true? Is there an alternative to get them same effect?
Any good books or DVDs? I'm by no stretch programmer or a mathematician. I definitely need it explained the arty way, at least partially. But I'd be happy if there was a list of unuseable nodes and what can be used to replace them for Film comps.
Lastly, I find with a viewer LUT on, mattes look blown out even though they're not. Is there a way to apply the LUT to only the RGB so alpha looks right?
Can I just say I can't wait for the day when it's all digital linear?
Thanks in advance,
