Shake, Quad G5 And Hdtv

Has anyone used Shake with a Quad G5 ? Does it work much faster than a standard Dual G5 ?
I'm doing lots of bluescreening (and other effects) in HDTV resolution (HDV source).

How much RAM should I get ?
I'm working with a single G5 and 1.5 GB RAM and I never run out of RAM yet.

I have a Dual 2.5 (2.5GB RAM) and a Quad (4GB RAM). The quad renders at about 2.5 times the speed of the dual. But remember, in 2 or 3 years we will think of it as slow!

I know that will become slow. But i need more speed. Also I don't trust the Intel Macs for large calculations, they seem to be much slower than a G5.

What do you mean by "large calculations"? You do know that most software on the intel macs are being emulated through Rosetta right now because they are compiled for PPC, not intel.. Once native binaries of Shake come out, it will be much faster

Yes, I know that. But Intel's MAc are baes on pentiums which in all test were slower than G5, specially for task using the Altivec Engines from G5, the Altivec engine.

Yes but that is for tasks specifically written for the Altivec engine (not everything is, and I don't think much of shake is). Stuff like compression really sees a nice benefit from vectorizing code. These G5's are the last of their kind in a mac, so in another year, it doesn't matter what the test number say because the intel ones will still be faster. The g5 has been at a standstill for the last 2 years anyways because IBM can't deliver. The future is Intel with osx.

Wouldn't a RAID 0 or 1 be in order to address read/write speed?
