Shake Still Available For Linux Or Windows?

Hi All,

sorry for a seemingly daft thread because I don't think it is available for Windows or Linux, but does anyone know if its still possible to buy Shake for Windows?, or if not the last version they would have made? before they stopped? or is Shake for Linux still available, I e-mailed Apple to ask them, but they seemed very confused.

heres the e-mail - to be honest, it kind of made me laugh, even though it wasn't really that helpful, what feedback? they didn't answer the question, the first place i tried was the store. Apple aren't really the best, are they?

sorry, if its not possible for someone to answer the questions, can you please escalate the inquiry? just because I would like to know if I can buy a version of the software, but I would not like to buy a Mac notebook as it is not as stable as Linux, or as compatible as Windows.

they kind of made me laugh, but didn't really answer my question, so if anyone knows if its still possible to buy a copy of Shake for windows, or was it completely discontinued? and if theres a linux version somewhere? I don't want to be on the phone to them because normally it says to visit the website. lol

Shake for Windows was discontinued back in 2002/2003 at version 2.5.1 and no you can't buy it anymore. Shake for linux and mac we're available till version 4.1 in June of 2006 after which it was EOL. You can still buy the mac version but the linux version is really hard to buy new copies of unless your a currently Shake linux owner.

Anyways it isn't worth it at $5k(when they EOL the software they dropped the mac version to $500 but kept the linux version at 5k). You would be better off with Toxik or Nuke which are only $3500.

as already said, the windows version is long gone and the linux version really expensive..

however, the mac version is an incredibly good deal.. the EDU version is about 250EUR, so get yourself a second hand macmini or powermac or try a OSX install on your PC and you easily have the most affordable high-end compositing package to learn stuff with.

then again, if you have a lot of spare cash around, nuke might be a good idea too

Well the people at the Apple store have very little knowledge outside of the consumer products. Employees there can't call Apple corporate and ask why some product was canceled. It's like going to a Ford dealership and asking why they stopped making the Pinto. They have no idea and will give you some BS answer.
