Hi Guys,
I work for a top Retouching/3D house in the Uk specialising in producing photoreal 3D images for print/advertising. We are expanding into moving image using the techniques we have developed for producing high quality imagery at upto 15,000px. At present I am in charge of the compositing side of things and have dedicated a lot of time to learning Shake.
As we get more into this field we have decided we need to purchase a dedicated compositing workstation. i have decided I will base this system around Shake 4.1 and one of the new Intel Mac Pros that are due later this year. However, I need some help in what else to purchase. At present the demands on the system won't be too high but we will need to be able to expand the system as and when we need more power/storage.
We are mainly compositing 3D generated video at 720p although we would need the system to handle 2k at a workable level. My bosses have asked me to come up with 3 systems, a 'budget', a 'mid' and a 'high-end' system. We will then discuss what we need to purchase.
If anyone could help me by suggesting equipment that I need to research i would be grateful.
I am looking specifically at render farm, storage (raid), video capture and output, displays, calibration plus anything else you can think of.
Cheers.
