shape Null

hi, maybe this question was posted already, but i didint find the right answer in the forum.

basicly the thing is :

i am animating with shape animation a simple object.
is there a way to connect a null object (used as a slider) to change shapes indipendently and animate the motion of sliders and not the weight f-curvers or shape curves ?

and, if thats so, can anyone show me how to link the null object to the shape ?
