Hiya,
If i'm remembering rightly from a few years back when I was playing around with Dynamics, then you will have to start using 'collision layers' in your setup.
Also are you leaving the simulation running from start to end? That would clog it up good.
It's much faster to just turn things on when required, you can keframe the shards so that the collisions are turned on and off.
I remeber thinking it was just a matter of setting a few fields up and pressing shatter.
Well it wasn't that easy, but once you have your Collision layers set correct and you have spent a bit of time watching the simulation and turning everything off that can go off.....
[You will wish you had keframed each of the 250pieces!] Nahh only joking, it should run much better....Hope that's correct advice as although i've been doing Maya for a long time i'm still a bit of a novice as I forget so much !
Good luck, have a peek in the Help on Collision layers and if you get stuck give me a shout and i'll try dig my old project out .................Regards John
