hey all,
I don't know if this qualifies as spam ..
So we've added a really nifty new option to our shaveWriteRib mel command (this is our prman rib export).
It's a voxel flag that dices up your hair output into a series of delayed read archives (which you create at rendertime) and gives you a master rib that sets all their bounds. All you need do is insert:
ReadArchive "master.rib"
into your rib to grab it.
With this technique there are no memory limitations anymore for hair count.
What's even nicer, is we've also applied this to our instancing feature which substitutes poly geometry (like trees, feathers, etc) for hairs. So you can render whole forests with tons of trees ..
Anyway, since it's a delayed read archive, it will also work with most prman compliant renders.
more info in our docs, and there's a 2 week demo on our site that you can play with.
