Ok, I saw this little thing in a Best Buy. It's meant for gameing I guess. As I was looking at it and reading about it I was thinking that maybe this little gizmo might be used for maya or some other 3d app. WHat it is is a hand pad with lots of buttons that can be programmed to do just about anything even dual commands with one button. Like being able to setup button 1 to do a shift-select. The best part about this is it fits in your hand and it's like 10 buttons.
Now what I'm wondering is if anyone has actually baught one of these and if they work like they say they do. I would hate to spend the 50 bucks on it and have it be useless except to games. Well let me know.

If you get it from best buy (or walmart) you should have no problem returning the thing. Just tell them it doesnt function as it says it does and they give you your money back (best buy usually then sells the things as open box, i got a sidewinder gamepad that way). I would imagine that it just sends a text string based on what you programmed it to do. It is designed mostly for realtime strategy games, so i assume the commands that are normally keyboard based (ctrl+shift and stuff like that) can be replaced by a button.
If ya do get one and it works, why not program a command string to activate mel scripts for animation or modeling, ot maybe to select different paint effects brushes.
Yeah I think I might go out and buy one. Either that or put it on my Christmas list. With the right setup on it, maybe a delete history button and a rebuild surface button on it, I;m sure I could increase my modeling time.
