Simple Ripple Deformer

I can easily do this with tinderbox in AE but I am pretty new to Nuke and would rather figure out a way to do do this in this package. Any Pointers in the right direction would be great.

I'd use the IDistort node and create a ripple map in the UV channels to do that.
Are you after concentric ripples or vertical/horizontal ones?
Might be able to put something together with the ColorX node and then wrap it up in a gizmo.

I just uploaded a couple of gizmos that are each based on Color Expressions feeding into IDistorts.
Give it a while then check the downloads/gizmos/Transformation section.

One is a wave distrortion, the other a concentric ripple distortion.
They are both very simple at that stage but you're welcome to make suggestions for features etc.

I guess with the RippleDistortion it makes sense to take it futher to provide timing controls over when the ripples start spreading out and how long they last.
