Simulating A Bad Mpeg Stream?

You know what I refer to right? The thing that happens when any mpeg-style video gliches. Macroblocks start showing. Parts of an old frame remains and messes up the image until a new iframe comes along.. that kind of thing.

I have been trying to create things like this for a while but I am always less that happy. I can come up with my own kind of analog and semi-digital crackles and distortions but real damaged mpeg/wmv always looks cooler... or possiblt it is just because I can't recreate it that I find it so appealing.

I have a feeling I need a "proper" plugin but I'll ask anyway: Does anyone have any macros, node-trees that do this? Any tips you care to share?

The best option would ofcourse be to find an opensource mpeg encoder/decoder and then add controlls for introducing errors into the datastream... but that is a bit over my head.

Thought I'd ask anyway...

genarts has a really good one. Not free but it does exactly what you want. You can get a full working demo that renders with no water marks for a week or two.
