ok, i'm still having trouble here... i've been trying to add a skin to a skeleton that already contains the basic character model of my animation. the weights have already been painted on it and it has been animated completely. the problem is that the fur renderer is taking WAY too long, and so i'm trying to detach the fur "jacket" i have on my character to add a PFX fur "jacket". of course, detaching and deleting the fur is easy, but i'm having a problem attaching this new skin. i'm already afraid that it might affect my animation as it is, but if i detach the main character, i lose the painted weights i had. i've tried exporting the weight maps, but there are 68 of them, and maya always crashes in the process. go to bind pose does absolutely nothing, even with all my expressions turned off and after moving the root node. it just doesn't move back to the original pose. so what can i possibly do here? i REALLY don't have time to go back and fix weights or animation, as i need to start rendering if i hope to submit to siggraph. (not that i think it'll get in, but it's always worth a shot!
