We're having an interesting problem when we try to import a rigged character that's been saved as an .fbx file. When we bring the character into Maya (with a bound, weighted skeleton) and try to edit the skin weights using the "paint skin weights" tool, the weights won't display on the mesh in the interface. The joint heirarchy will still display in the tools menu, and the deformations themselves are still correct, but the weights will not display (as tones of grayscale) on the mesh. Any ideas as to why this may be happening and/or how to correct it?
In the Viewport, go to the Shading tab -> Use default material. It has to be turned (or ticked) off, otherwise it will not display the weights.
Sometimes the paint weights tool acts very strange and we've had similar problems a couple of times. Only that we were lucky and the problem solved itself next time the file was re-imported.
try this in paint weight tool atributes u find weight type simply change it to DQ blend weight then again go to skin weight so u can solve the problem.
