Smoke Problem

I have Maya 2009. I've created smoke and it does what I want it to do. It's on a ship, coming out of the stack. The problem is a few of the smoke particles fly all over the place. I'm sure it's caused by some setting. I have gravity and turbulence. Yet, when I hide them it has no effect, I still get a few particles flying all over, at a fast rate of speed.

Any ideas?

There is a pretty cool ship smoke stack in the fluid examples...have ya checked that out?
