Smooth Object Disappear

I created a character in maya 7, and used smooth proxy for get a low and high poly objects.
Today I just updated my maya to version 8.
However, the smooth, hight poly is disappeared.
Does anyone know what's going on???
And how to get it back?

is low-poly object still there? just convert it again to proxy,,
at least here should be some nodes that may contain info about your object, they just are not displayed because of some switch attribute or version unconsistances.

1. yes, the low-poly is still there
2. high-poly's node is still there as well
3. convert it again will be a huge job, because in order to create the texture in detail,
   I adjust UV Map a lot after converting low-poly to high-poly

any idea how to get the high-poly back to the screen???

If Maya 8 really cannot open files made by maya 7, 6.5 or 6 correctly,
then why people have to update their Maya version?

I cannot answer You question about why people do what they do, but probably Your smooth proxy is still there. Open attribute editor and check display sections for it's shape node, especially wether there's IntermediateObject flag checked or not - turn it OFF. Otherwise look if it is not a member of some display layer or group which is hidden.

its impossible to guess what the problem is without accessing the file. But yes thing is you never realy migrate mid project, unless its a long process. of somekind, even then you reserve 2-3 meths per project for transition.

damn right about that. sometime back I upgraded from premiere 6.5 to Premiere Pro in mid-editing of a feature and it took me like 3 months to get my shit sorted out before I could actually start doing any real work again.
