hello all!
In 3ds max there is a function called smoothing group which allows the user to, when rendering, make adjacent faces appear to be smoothly blended together without a hard edge (i.e two faces appears to be one nice smooth face).
for example, if you have a pyramid polygon, there will 4 triangles and one square. If you set the four trianlges as one smoothing group and set the square as another smoothing group. When you render, it will appear to be a smooth cone with a square bottom.
Does maya have such a function or do i have to mesh smooth it which is an over kill?
