I've imported a polygon model(iges format) into xsi from maya, and its faceted. How can you smooth the edges out. And can you do this for individual edges. I've tried increasing the discontinuity angle, but still its faceted.
Perhaps subdivs are what you're after?
hm. Sometimes in the days of using 3DS MAX when I imported a DXF mesh it imported all the polygons all right, but the vertices were not welded properly so the object was just a bunch of separate polygons, so naturally smoothing didn't work at all. This could be something similar (and if it is then subdivision won't help either).
Looks like I will have to experiment some more. The polygon is fine, its just a sphere primitive straight from maya. But when it comes in to xsi its faceted. But in maya you can smooth individual edges for polygons without having to go subd. I was presuming xsi would do something similar..
thanks anyway.
polygon as iges? - I didn't know that was possible........
eat well, stay fit - die anyway
ok I sorted the problem.
Export the polygon model as .obj. Open in polytrans then export as softimage. Then import into xsi and its all smooth.
