I've just about had it with the things that work in demo movies or tutorials and not for me. Frankly, just about everything I've learned so far seemed to be more trial and error trying to get a simple feature to work.
I just watched a movie clip where a poly cube was created. The user then hit insert to edit the center point and selected the X axis. He then held down the 'C' key and clicked on one of the edges of the polycube and the center point snapped the left side of the cube and was centered on that face (still aligned with its origin). I am trying it on a NURBS square and cant for the life of me get the pivot point to snap to one side of the object. Can someone please explain what I might be doing wrong or just elaborate on how snapping works? Thanks.
Make the edit points visible and then snap to a vertex hold v down. OR with snapping to curves hold c down the middle mouse click on the curve you need to snap on, pressing rightclick sends maya searching for a curve under your click, but since you must be on the move gizmo maya cant probably find the curve on your mind, if no curve is found maya abandons serach and acts like normal move!
also snapping doesent work good in any other move mode than world! check that first! doubleclick on move tool.
BOOYA! Oh man thank you soo much. I have a long history with adobe illustrator so I love to be precise, thus I love snapping and I start to lose it when it seems like it should just work. Thanks again.
