Soft Focus Shot

Prior to gettting into Shake I am trying to evaluate how to handle the following:

On green screen I will have a 2-shot with actor in the foreground out of focus.
How does Shake handle the keying of soft out of focus elements?
Do I have to shoot each actor separately?
Should I get the Ultimatte plug-in?

I appreciate any suggestions before I commit to this software.

This can be done by any compositor, not just Shake. With any out of focus elements you going to need to do some manual work on the edges (there aren't any automated tools for this).
