Softimage|3D import

Is there any (FREE??) plug-in/tool that allows to import Softimage|3D scenes (.dsc) and/or Softimage|3D models (.hrc) into Maya ?

The only one that I know of is LambSoft Movetools.. of course it isn't free but for a reduced price you can rent a one month license from them if this a job specific or one time conversion that you need to do.

Only problem is that you have to beable to install their plugin in both porgramsm so that you export fromm one to the common format and then import the common format into the other program.

Whoever said "the best things in life are free" wasn't a software developer

Like Ed Harris mentionned on the XSI Forum; Softimage will soon release a Max and Maya plug-in to export to .xsi format.
I saw the Maya plug-in at the Softimage party at Siggraph. It made my day.

Okay so does this answer the original question?

Does either of the plugins you mention import .dsc or .hrc files into Maya?

And what about Neutral Zone, available from Alias|Wavefront?
Can anyone compare these 2 products? (Neutral Zone / LambSoft Movetools)

And what about Neutral Zone, available from Alias|Wavefront?

I have heard little to nothing about this plugin. I can't find any info on it except that it costs around $2000.

I searched the forums here and found nothing infomative.

I really suggest that you try the rental license for Movetools it's only a couple hundred bucks for a month. I highly doubt that AW will allow you to rent Neutral Zone.

At least with Movetools you can get a pretty good understanding of what it does and how it works from their website. Whereas you'll have to call a reseller to find out anything else about Neutral Zone.
