Softimage Forum is Dead

Yes thats right it's dead, when I first started using this forum there where many people willing to help out, to give an answer, and if they were not sure about what you meant they'd ask you to elaborate.
Nowadays nothing seems to be happening at all, the softimage community on highend3D is coming to a very slow halt.
If not for URP this forum would be dead.
Maybe I'm should not expect help so much, but is'nt that what a forum is all about?
I feel like I'm wasting my time posting these days.

most forums are dead....for many reasons. like people finishing schools.. others looking for jobs..nicer weather.( not for us canadians though ...etc..etc..some of the people that visit this place have actual lives..( can you believe that?.)

For all practical purposes, development of SI3D is dead. Sure, their will be future releases with new tools, but don't expect anything galant as all development resources are being poured into XSI as that is the future.

The SI3D forum is dying because XSI is picking up steam. Peak over the wall and you'll see what I mean.

I agree with Speye_21. 3D is being fased out for XSI. You don't see much activity in the PowerAnimator section for the same reason.
However, 3D is still alive an well. However, most people who post here are students. There just aren't very many schools offering course work in 3D anymore, now that XSI is becoming mature.

I actually don't think the 3D forum is dead. I see about the same amount of posts as I always do. However, in time I expect XSI to consume it. Not because 3D is outdated, but has been very well integrated into XSI.

Well I have a few more weeks left of softimage 3D, thank god for that, I am looking forward to the transition to XSI.
I have become fed up with alot of things in softimage. I use 3D Studio Max too and cannot help but compare these two packages.
The Texture editor is quite frankly crap, softimage cannot map a cube object?, these are simple things that even cinema 4D go can achive.
Very soon I'll be transfering to the XSI forum and I hope Its more helpfull then the 3D forum.
As far as other people having a life, well I'm a student, and I don't have one, yet.

hi,

i am very much into softimage3d and would love to see this forum help more people improve their craft. we just ordered xsi but i am not sure if i will have a smooth transition from 3d to xsi because i haven't explored it yet. as for now i just stick to 3d.

OMG! Nooo.... i've only started learning 3D in the last year or so, and haven't even scratched the surface. I've seen stuff done with 3D and i can't believe how amazing it is and then to think that it's being swept under the carpet to be taken over by XSI

If this forum dies where will i go to harrass people with my questions?!

I wouldn't sweat it. Soft 3D is a very mature product that gets the job done well. The transition to XSI only has to happen when you are ready. If you already know Soft3D, then XSI is a natural progression to your existing skills.

Bottom, line...learn to animate first, and worry about these other issues later. 3D Software will always be changing, so there is no avoiding it anyway.

Hi Ob1, I'm also in the position of knowing 3DSmax very well and finding Soft frustrating by comparison - so I remembered your post a few minutes ago when I discovered (excitedly)that Soft does after all have an equivalent to Cubic mapping in Max.

Get a global 3D texture, and Select the Projection1 Mental Ray shader from the ShaderLib/Projection folder. Choose Cubical projection type, et voila

You can also use Model > Effect > Cubicmap+ for more hands-on control.
