Yes I used it once, in fact more than once.
First, go in Tools > Export > Object > 3dsExport+
Click on Select, and choose your destination. When you're in the right folder, click OK, then go at the end of the path, and type the file name with the extension (.3ds). Click OK. The 3ds file is created.
Now, when you import it into another software, any SRT animation is plotted (even if you import the 3ds file into SI3D). THe nurbs objects are converted into polygons. I don't know if shape animation is preserved, if yes it's probably plotted too. If you absolutely want to transfer nurbs, you'll have to use the IgesExport (same location). However I don't know this format very well, I can't tell you if it keeps animation.
