Something wired going with the transparentcy

I am going to make a cornfield. I am making two grid cross over to save polys. and those are going tobe duplicated all over to make like a cornfield. I rendered out 1 corn tobe the texture. and map an alpha channel to it to creat a transparent space, so that everything that isn't the corn will not show. I am not sure if it is the best way to do it , but now i have a problem going. as you see in the picture that here has a grid showing. I've try everything as i know to fix it. however, i discover that if 3 object or polygons overlapping each other. Mentalray is going to render like as you see in the image. this is the render region so that it show you the wire frame. In the actual render. those grid transparent thing will turn to black. Like the object is untexture. This is my main problem. Any idea. or any idea that i can do a low poly corn field using texutre.

I couldn't access your image. (Maybe your link is wrong) So, I can't see what you are talking about, but I think I know what the problem is. Your ray depth is set too low. Look in your render options under the Optimization tab. Turn all three of the sliders in the Raytracing Depth section up till the "black grid" problem goes away.

I worked on an ad a while back that had tons of CG wheat in it. We ended up rendering only a few rows at a time, but we did many sets of those rows. Then composited them together. The rows in the very back ground were made with fur. It worked really well. Here is an MPEG of the ad, if you want to see what I am talking about. Thanks a lot. I did a million things on that ad. I worked on just about every shot. I did some modeling, a little animation, a lot of texturing almost all of the compositing and a few FX here and there. But I was not alone. It took a team of about 50 people (not including the actors) to do this ad. (This includes all the people that built the miniatures, worked on the set, the editors, producer, director, etc...) BTW, the director was Richard Taylor. (The Visual Effects Supervisor for Tron.)

try typing in the address. I don't know why these 2 webspace doesn't load images. I've tried to hunt many webspace. There has no good webspace hosting. Any suggestion will be good.

Ok, I just tried typing it in the address. But, it still does now work. Yes, you are right, good webspace is hard to find. Unless you want to pay for it, and even then it's not 100% reliable.

Folks,
I use Multimania (www.multimania.fr), and I only have good comments. You start with an initial 100 Mb of space, and you can ask for additional 50 Mb when you want (you have to fill 85% of the space before).
The server is almost always up, the banners are easy to get rid of, and the images always show up when I link to them (like in this forum).

Well for now multimania seems to be down..... these things always happen when it matters, don't they? When you want to show something on your computer to someone it crashes (when you're alone it never crashes), when you recommend a web host to someone because of its great reliability the server is down, and so on......

I got it. Try these two things.

1. Render>Region>Show RGB
2. Render>Region>Options>Optimization. Now, turn all three of the sliders in the Raytracing Depth section up till the problem goes away

Just yesterday Dave Lajoie released an addon that will allow you to make parts of your object transparent and overlap hundreds of them without having to turn the raydepth up to 50 million. This should really help you when you are rendering your field. If you have ever used lightwave, I believe that this is very much like the "stencil"option.
