Sprint Car Model (Unfinished)

This is a model I have been working on for about 3 weeks every night. I would like your honest opions of this and how it can be improved. What I did was I bought a plastic model of a sprint car. Then while I was putting it together I modeled each part to the exact measurements, or as close as I could get. Only the wheels, the roof and hood wing, and the hood are left to be done. I am posting it without those on because I wanted the detail to be shown. Please give me some feed-back, and what needs to be done so I can get a job somewhere.

Other angles of this car can be found at:

Its sweet! texture it. Russ

Ok, here is an update to it. I would have had this done sooner but I have pretty much just passed out every night this week. Today was the first time I have had to work on it since I posted the first time. The textures on it aren't finished. I need to add the decals. Also the hood, and the back support of the wing aren't finished. I should have waited to add color to it until after I was done, but I was like a kid I just couldn't wait.

and again the link to see all the new angles is:

WOW ! ! !

Thank you for liking my work. I was hoping people could give me a critique of my work. Also, I have a question on how do you think I should showcase this model when I am sending it out to companies? There is a lot of hidden detail that I have put into it. Would it be a good idea to also send the model as a .mb file along with a demo reel? Another question is do I even need a demo reel if I am just creating models without any movement? Maybe I could just send out a bunch of color prints of sections of this piece.

Should I post this in the student section? Since I barely have any experience in the field, and I do not have a job right now in the field, should I move it over there? It always seems like more critique goes on over there for some reason.

Thanks again,
Cyphre

I think you definately show some talent here. I am lead modeler and texturer for a company here in Vancouver, and from what I've seen the modelers GENERAL also do all thier own texturing as well. You have a good foundation for your textures, but now I have to suggest you dirty it up. LOTS.

My suggestions: Scan the web for pics of chipped and rusted hulls, take the pics into photoshpo and adjust the colors as you see fit. I want to see what colors are UNDER the paint. Rust up the nuts and bolts, and get some dirt on those tires.

Now for the bad news: When you submit this in your reel at a company, dont have the camera zip in and out and around and all of that. This model rotation should be at the MOST 8 seconds. If this is one of your only models you wish to show and you'de like to show the obviously high complexity of the model, you could have all of your components "assemble themselves" from off camera. (Ie have your pipes and rollbar and tires all come together to form your final car) This helps you in 2 ways, number one it shows the audience the high level of detail inside your models, and MOST importantly it keeps your audience interested. If you are looking for a creative suggestion, maybe when it all forms togther, you could have it assemble just slightly off of the ground, then once the pieces are all together, have the car drop, and show that you also have some shock absorber and tires rigs set up for ease of animation.

On a final note to my possibly WAY too long reply, I would suggest without a looking in the tutorial section and try and set up a "fake global illumintaion" rig. You dont have to go as intense as the tutorial does, but it will make your model look INFINATELY more realistic.

Good luck on the job hunt and keep us posted.

Now, that is exactly the type of critique I was looking for. No, it wasn't too long of a reply. I found your crit to be very imformitive. I also like your idea about having it drop a little ways to show the suspension of the car. That might take me a little while to do though. The car is about 239,000 faces. Most of that is from the wheels and rims. I think it was around 95,000 before I added those, I'll have to check on that though. Anyways, my computer is running a little slower with that on there. I can't image how long it would take to process an animation.

I should have the finished car with textures and decals done pretty soon. I am hoping ot have it done by the end of this weekend.

Thanks again for your critique,
Cyphre
