Stitching patches problem

for some reason ( i am sure that it is a logical one) i am having a problem stitching my face together. i first built the general shape with curves. i then tried to trim out a spot for the eys but i was told to avoid trims, so i went another route. i cut my face into patches and made my eye socket by lofting some circles. all of the patches have matching isoparms and should fit back together neatly or so i thought, but this is not the case. i tried to stitch the points together, and this worked a bit but not at all for the corners of the eyes, then i figured that global stich my be able to fix things a little but the results were not any better there either. i would love to hear some input on this . thank you in advance

i may have found the answer to my own question through a tutorial on swanimator. heven't tried it yet but sounds like what i need to do.. if anyone has any suggestions otherwise i would love to here them. thanks

Hello.. Yes I told you not to use the trims.. they are bad very bad.. you would have had unfixable problems done the road.

The issue you may be having is with tangency between adjacent surfaces. Stitch point/edge can sometimes fix this and global stitching is really more to keep all the patches together once you are ready to deform / animate with the patch model.

Another problem may simple be the tesselation during rendering. You can equally increase the tesselation for those surfaces in the attribute spread sheet editor and or turn on smooth edge for them.

If the problem is mainly tangency one soltuion like swa's is to attach those surfaces using blend and then detach them at the correct intersection. You will have the most difficulty with areas that have multiple corners intersecting .. in these cases it helps for the area to be flat rather than rounded. It also helps for the corners to have equal angles like spokes in a wheel around the point that they meet.

There are some really excellent nurbs patch models at www.zoorender.com make not of the density of the patches and the even arrangement of the corners of the patches.

Have a look at these tutorials as well

This tutorial is for Alias PowerAnimator which was Maya's predecessor. Maya has most of the same alignment tools and they work in the same way.

thanks a lot, you have been a great help so far, and probably more in the future as this is only the beginning of a huge project. i am going to check out those pages and try your suggestion of the tangency solution. thank you again.
