"stop staring" face book

i just recently got this book and im happy with the information in it, but the wording is pretty bad. its almost like the author is having a conversation with himself.

anyway he has you constructing this mouth which starts with three circles that you manipulate cv's on then loft together. you then move a few cv's around on this surface. the next thing he says is "duplicate the inside row, scale it bigger uniformly, and translate it back in z."

im trying to find out what are you supposed to duplicate. he says row. now from what i know you cant duplicate cv's or isoparms or any other such component. the only thing i could think of is one of the starting circles, which you would then loft to the first surface. i tryed lofting the surface to a duplicated circle and vice versa and got a twisted piece of geometry.

anyway has anybody used this book? or does anybody know what this guy might be trying to say?

He is talking about eithe rone of the original curve sor selectign an isoparm duplicating it.

To loft correctly though you do need to select the curves in the correct order.

i think he is duplicating isoparms. im not sure how though. he might be clicking and dragging on edges then hitting insert knot to make a new edge then scaling out the edge he clicked and dragged on to extend the surface. but then theres a part where he says "duplicate and scale up the row that ends on the inside of the mouth, and loft the whole thing back together." which makes it sound like hes using the circle curves and not adding onto the original surface.

when i said i got twisted geometry that was lofting a curve to an isoparm not just lofting curves together.

You can insert an isoparm as well into a nurbs patch by clickign and dragging and then usign the insert isoparm command inthe edit nurbs surface menu.

You can select an isoparm and then use "duplicate surface curves" in the curve menu to make it into a physical curve.

ah, the "duplicate surface curves" seems to fit the situation. thanx man.

im still not exactly sure how the author is saying to do it, but i think im closer now.

the book has great information but its just presented so poorly.
