Hey guys,

In the new site id like to add a new "student center". Some of our schools are pulling back advertising because we've lost that market somewhat. Schools are half of what supports this site too.

The new tutorial section will really help as we are adding about 300, but what else would be good to go into a student center or section?

Any ideas?

Ok one thing... you might even get schools shouting and advertising on us more if you keep a list of all known scools by area! Ok not all but most. Could be handy in more remote areas.

A home assignment area where there are quetions and onec youve gone trough a alotted time you get the answer, or solutions, or one solution among many. A place for things to think on.

Aloso a monthly technical challenge... or something (no not modelling more in line of some maths or something different like rigging problem).

Guide to physics, and math relevant to 3d maybe.

Screen capture tutorials seem to be popular these days..

I also think a prize based contest would drive alot more traffic here from new users.

In general more resources like shaders, texture maps, models scene files etc would attract more users here.. Perhaps in the future those resources should only be accessable if you are registered user.

We should , as a group, maybe spend a little more time looking in the student critique section and the new userer sections giving advice.
I am guilty of hardly going in there myself becouse they drive me nuts.
But ah, its worth an attempt to at least boost the little we still have before we get the new site. I'm very quite happy loosing a large amount of the student population, ha, but thats not a good thing in the long run.

Add wireframe gallery with really nice models perhaps.
I know I have looked at a few in my time to figure out how to build things. Like this site

Also , recouces as simple as vechical blueprints or object plans , house layouts might be wonderfuly handy.

Well yeah i can uderstand the statement... I mean as much is I love this forum. Im still starting to feel im being leached more than i gain. Well you know that teaching makes you focus on the thing... and boy has highend taught me much about things... about human quality.

Wierd, i can only find 2 references to the entire book using google, or anything realy! And one of them is in a finnish library... Somewhere up north.

Anyway if you can get your hands on the book do! It contains data that is very insightfull about human nature.

Students like free stuff.
Links to "getting started" applications like Blender and free software like the XSI EXP and MAYA PLE would really go nicely in the Student Center.

Everyone likes free stuff... Howabout a ple to normal maya exporter! (yeah it can be done, quite easily too, altough its a painstaking job) Ok its problematic leegaly, but whatabout a service where we can render out a few display quality stills without those blody watermarks for them! You could even ask AW to support this. If its under a very strict set of constraints.

Now ple users could shocase their work on the net... and offcourse exclusively on highend.

A service like that would make a pretty penny. Do one for both Maya and XSI. Give Avid/Alias 50% of the profit and pocket the rest. They wouldn't even have to do any work. Imagine if it was automated. (Like some of those online renderfarms.) Once it is up and running, it would be a money machine.

I like a lot of the ideas coming though. Maybe a listing of scholarship programs at schools might be cool. Books, of course Ed's will be a feature

BY the way if aw doesent supply a possibility to export but does give us the permission to go ahead if we can i can! thein I assure we can take data out of ple and export it to a normal maya. (atleast polys are ballantly simple to do, my current importer exprtorter is crude but works).
