System "start ... Issue

I'm currently trying to launch firefox and a website from maya.
I started with

CODE
system( "start http:\www.google.com" );

Which didn't work, then i tried to use the start http:\www.google.com from command prompt and it worked...

Anyone have an idea what would cause maya not to launch the website?

syntax terror. Well for strters the url is in all actuality divided with / not \ secondly \ is the escape characer in stringparsing. So:

\ =\ so whet you sent to start http:\www.google.com to the cmd wich still owrks evetough ist clearly a typo like the one you have above.

anyway i dont know why it does not work even if you fix the syntax. Anyway maya has this functionality built differently anyway.

try

showHelp -absolute "http://www.google.com/"

instead, its also better since it owrks on all platforms the same.

I did try to reverse the slashes, and also, i used double slashes, still not working.
But your showHelp -absolute "http://www.google.com WORKS!!! Fantastic.
Thanks a ton.
