Takes weeks to select faces

Hi there,
I have the following problem: Whenever I have an object and select some faces, then add more and more faces, my cmputer takes super long until it's done. I have no reasons for this, that happens with all polygon objects. They are not complex, no history on it etc. It is since I work in a new company on a new computer. I've never had this problem before. Does anyone have a reason for this?

It might be a gfx board issue as geometry based one.
Easiest way to determine which one is to try same geometry manipulations on another computer if possible. If not, then try to launch some benchmarks and compare results on different comps.
Anyway in gfx case make sure You have latest Alias SERTIFIED (it might not be very latest developer's release, as in nVidia's case) driver installed.
In geometry case it is important to know what polygons they are. Open hypergraph and see up-downstream connections. If there's anything more than transform and shape nodes (e.g. polyBlindData or wrap), then get rid of them as far as You want to work without waiting.
Also check mayaPrefs wether You have undoQueue set finite or infinite. Watch how fast/slow Maya works after restart. If restart helps, then set undoQueue on something less than You have, or make MELbutton flushUndo and use it when bored.
