I'm working on a simple building.. extruded from a poly box. I'm finding that when I put my texture (from the materials library) the sections that were extruded, have an irregular surface, while the rest of the model is textured fine.
Do I have to take these extruded portions into the UV editor, or can I just even out the UV's from the extruded portions so that they act like the other UV's that I haven't messed with?
Extruding creates new faces. Anytime new faces are created Maya assigns them a base UV layout, basically the face fills the 0-1 texture square as best it can. Which causes overlapping /distortion in relation to the rest of the existing UV's. It is best to do all of your modelling first, then layout your UV's using your texturing tools.
thanks a bunch. i just got intimate with the projection tool and am trying to learn the others a bit more. now i just need to figure out how to "decal" and life will be grand
