The Problem with XSI scripting

I am concerned with scripts that use file I/O. According to the documentation, because XSI is stuck in the world of Active X, it does not allow file I/O to happen in scripting on *nix. For example, If I wanted to read in a text file that contained shot information -- I couldn't do it in Linux or Irix. I am stuck with NT. Frankly, this blows!

If anyone has a work around, please let me know. Otherwise, I would request for Avid to get thier act together! Particularly with the changing of the licensing sceme to no longer allow floating to different platforms with the basic version. This one problem makes XSI useless to most large scale and many smaller scale production houses which are based in the *nix world and is a major oversight on Avid's part.

Proprietary pipeline integration? BS!

Nothing has changed with the regards to serve a license across platforms. With the new licensing options, you can chop out things you don't need, but if you need multi-platform support, it's still there.

Let me also add to the previous posts by saying that you can currently do File I|O on unix if you use a 3rd party scripting IDE such as ScriptEase as they usually have their own File I|O libraries. There are a number of freeware IDE's if you do a search on the net.
