Tif Corruption Under Osx

Has anyone had problems rendering tifs under OSX? Our farm of G5 cluster nodes (all at 10.4.2) will render some frames slightly darker than others. These randomly darker frames follow no pattern, they happen on all machines within any given render job. We have also experienced similar problems rendering tifs under maya. Thanks in advance.

while i know this isnt the answer you are looking for, i'd still suggest rendering to PNG for smallest files and best cross app compability, or IFF for best performance.
or is there a specific reason why you need TIFF?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd rather find out what is causing the problem. This is also happening when we render targa files. In the case of Tif files, the bad frames appear to be significantly smaller (10MB versus 12MB).

yeah, i can understand that, i wouldn't feel at ease if my machine did that either...

to troubleshoot you could check the following:
does this happen with compressed and uncompressed tiff's?
does it happen with a simple comp too (like an animated colorwheel)?
does it happen on a single machine isolated from the cluster?
does it happen if you render to a different location?
do you use 3rd party plug-ins?

hope that helps, and once you found the problem, i still suggest rendering to .png or .iff

Problem solved... Turns out using a QuickTime as a FileIn node was causing the problem. Converting the QT to tiffs solved the problem.
